Data from Fame helps reveal Britain’s most successful private company exporters

Data from Bureau van Dijk has helped to shine a light on the top 200 mid-market private companies in Britain with the fastest-growing exports – including sports car maker Aston Martin, fashion retailer White Stuff, coffee house chain Caffè Nero and craft beer maker BrewDog.

FastTrack, the private company network, used data from Bureau van Dijk’s Fame database of companies in the UK and Ireland to compile its list, which is published in the Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200.

“Our 9th annual Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200 league table ranks Britain’s mid-market private companies with the fastest-growing international sales," said Hamish Stevenson, founder and chief executive of Fast Track. “It highlights the private companies that are succeeding overseas at a time of real uncertainty for our trading relations with the rest of the world.”

“Based across the country, they have seen international sales grow an average of 62% a year to a total of £10.1bn, and they employ 106,000 staff, having added 24,000 jobs over the past two years.”

To be included in the list, companies had to be registered in the UK and be independent, unquoted and ultimate holding companies. Overseas sales had to exceed £1 million, be at least 5% of total sales and show a rise from the previous year, while total sales had to exceed £25 million and operating profit had to be positive.  Pure property developers and financial trading companies were excluded. The sales growth was measured by the companies’ latest two years of accounts, either publicly available or obtained from the firm.
